In response, Democratic Party Chair Joe Morelle challenged her record, saying it is one of "job losses, property-tax increases, perennial and growing budget deficits, sweetheart deals for friends, scandal at the Water Authority, and a divisive approach toward local governments and sales tax distribution." This year's county-executive campaign, he said, will be "a referendum on the future direction and well-being of our community."
The Democrats would have been expected to name their own county-exec candidate at their annual convention on May 17. A party spokesperson said this afternoon that there may be no announcement at that event.
