POLITICS: Morelle wants Water Authority abolished (but faces a hurdle)
Published by Jeremy Moule on May 15, 2007
Democratic Assemblymember Joe Morelle has introduced legislation in Albany to abolish the Monroe County Water Authority and merge its functions with county government. In a press release today, Morelle said he introduced the bill to "restore the public trust that has suffered after recent scandals at the authority." If the bill passed, the authority would be dismantled after outstanding debt was paid off. But there's a small hurdle to jump: the Republican-dominated County Legislature has to adopt a home-rule message in line with the language of Morelle's bill.
