TECH: The county's giving you (some of you) wi-fi

Published by Jeremy Moule on May 09, 2007
The County Legislature has approved a plan to establish wi-fi in several areas of the county. That clears the way for the county to negotiate an agreement with Frontier Communications, which would lease space on county-owned buildings and structures like light poles for transmitting equipment. Free zones will be established in parts of Greece, Rochester, and Pittsford to start with. Through amendments offered by Brighton Democrat Travis Heider and Pittsford Republican Bill Smith, the Brooks administration is authorized to negotiate free access points throughout the county by 2012.
