ART: "Rochester-Finger Lakes Exhibition"; "Salon de Refuses"

This weekend the "Rochester-Finger Lakes Exhibition" returns at the Memorial Art Gallery. In its 61st year, the exhibit includes 31 works by 23 artists, including 13 artists new to the show. The exhibition, which is Rochester's oldest and most prestigious juried show, opens on Sunday, June 17, and continues through September 2. A preview party will be held Saturday, June 16, 8-11 p.m. ($8-$15). Gallery hours are Wednesday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., until 9 p.m. on Thursdays; admission is $3-$7, only $3 on Thursday evenings 5-9 p.m. (there is no admission on opening day 11 a.m.-5 p.m.) The Memorial Art Gallery is located at 500 University Avenue. 473-7720, http://mag.rochester.edu.

If you're the rebellious sort, check out Visual Studies Workshop and Image City Photography's counterpart to the MAG's show, "The Salon des Refuses: Artworks Declined by the Finger Lakes Exhibition." The exhibit opens Saturday, June 16, is housed in both venues, and is comprised of works submitted and rejected by the "Rochester-Finger Lakes" jurors.
