BLUES: Robert Cray (6/21)

Published by Ryan Whirty on Jun 20, 2007

Robert Cray is perhaps the preeminent practitioner of modern-day urban blues, the type B.B. King and T-Bone Walker first started playing in the 1940s. From the day he formed his first band in Eugene, Oregon, in 1974, Cray has perfected his own brand of slick, soul-tinged blues - and earned a truckload of Grammys and other assorted honors in the process. Aside from B.B. himself, Cray is probably the most popular bluesman on the planet, and as such he's earned his place as King's rightful heir. His latest release is 2006's "Live from Across the Pond," a disc that showcases the style Cray will display on Thursday, June 21, when he plays the High Falls Festival site. Opening for Cray will be Rochester's own king of the blues, Joe Beard. The show starts at 5:30 p.m., free, all ages, 428-6697.
