BLUES: The Nighthawks (6/13)

Published by Ryan Whirty on Jun 13, 2007

Singer and harp blower Mark Wenner started The Nighthawks in 1972 in Washington D.C. when he joined with guitarist Jimmy Thackery to form what would become, over 35 years of ass-busting, one of the hardest-working, hardest-driving white boy blues/soul bands in the country. Thackery left the Nighthawks in 1987 for a successful solo career, but Wenner has always managed to recruit and retain musicians who share his love for American roots and blues, and his desire to remain America's best bar band. The band still plays 200-plus shows a year, one of which is chronicled on the band's latest release, a two-disc live CD, "Blue Moon in Your Eye."

The Nighthawks play the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, 99 Court Street, 325-7090, on Wednesday, June 13, at 10 p.m., all ages, free.
