  • Marketing analyst Laurie Volk of Zimmerman-Volk Associates will discuss "Living Downtown" at the next Reshaping Rochester lecture on Wednesday, June 20. Volk will talk about her research on the real-estate markets, demographics, and lifestyle trends that define the new urbanism movement. The event, which is sponsored by the Rochester Regional Community Design Center, the Rochester Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and Preferred Care, will be held at the Hochstein Performance Hall at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door, and are available at Wegmans, Parkleigh, and the Rochester Regional Community Design Center.   • The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) has organized a workshop on applying the principles of non-violence to help bring an end to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The workshop, "Conscientious Objection to Military Taxation," will be presented on Friday, June 15, from 5:30 pm. to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with a break for lunch); and Sunday, June 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held at Religious Society of Friends Meeting House, 41 Scio Street.   • The Hudson Avenue Business Association will discuss the first phase of the Hudson Avenue Corridor Study on Monday, June 18. Among the topics: setting revitalization goals for the area, survey questions for business owners and residents, zoning, and preliminary design concepts. The meeting, which is sponsored by the United Way and organized by HABA, Group 14621, and Leadership Rochester, will be held at 1370 Hudson Avenue starting at 5:30 p.m.
