After the acoustic re-work album "Union Street," Erasure jumps back into old territory with this new disc. Throughout the 10 synthesizer-drenched tracks, the duo manages to tackle unusually slow ballads, high-paced dance-pop, and even gospel.
Longtime fans will appreciate the significant up-tempo changes on "Sucker for Love" and "Sunday Girl," while everyone can delight in Andy Bell's over-the-top vocals and simple, if not clichéd, lyrics. Though the album loses steam with tracks like "Storm in a Teacup," the remainder of the disc is as hummable and danceable as Erasure's best.
Though treading old ground, Erasure continues to mine a very rich musical vein, one that the group has kept largely to itself for the last 20 years, and hopefully for some time to come.
