SPORTS: Rochester Twilight Criterium (6/23)

Published on Jun 20, 2007
This one's big, y'all: The Saturn Rochester Twilight Criterium returns Saturday, June 23, for a fourth year, turning Downtown Rochester into doozy of a bicycle road race that you've got to see to believe. Pro men's and women's teams from around the country (and the world) take on the course, which transforms one mile of city streets into our own wee version of the Tour de France. Actually, that's a poor comparison - unlike that race's epic scope, this is a much more compact affair, and that makes the race infinitely more exciting. You can't afford to be in the back of the pack for even a minute, so everybody's on the prowl and making a move.

Spectators can check out the nighttime action for free (athletes can sign up to compete until 11 p.m. on Thursday, June 21), and the whole affair raises money for the Wilmot Cancer Center. Races start at 3:45 p.m., with the major categories starting after 6 p.m. For more information visit www.rochestercrit.com.
