This week's calls to citizenship include the following events and activities. (All are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.)
  • The Rochester school district's Department of Parent and Community Involvement will hold a meeting on Saturday, July 14, to get parents' opinions about the federal No Child Left Behind Act, which is up for renewal. The law's impact on elementary, secondary, special education, and English as a second language will be discussed, and comments will be compiled and forwarded to federal legislators. The meeting will be held at 30 Hart Street from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will provided. Registration: 324-9960.
  • Bush administration critic Bob Bowman, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, will give his "Take Back America" presentation at an event in Hilton on Monday, July 16. The event, which is sponsored by the Keemer-Riordon Chapter of Veterans for Peace and Rochester for 9/11 Truth, starts at 4 p.m. with a take-your-own-picnic at the Hilton Village Park Jennejahn Lodge on West Avenue. Bowman's talk starts at 7 p.m. Suggested donation: $10.
  • "Dangerous Living: Coming Out in the Developing World," a documentary film directed by John Scagliotti and narrated by Janeane Garofalo, will be shown on at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, at Third Presbyterian Church, Meigs Street at East Avenue. The event is sponsored by the More Light Committee of the Third Presbyterian Church and Tawa Pano Unity Fellowship Church.
