CLASSICAL: Derrick Smith (7/19)

If you saw Mercury Opera's production of "Showboat" this past June, you'll recognize singer Derrick Smith. He sang the role of Joe, the riverboat worker. A powerful singer with a commanding presence and plummy, deep voice, Smith offers a solo recital this week. I'm not sure what he's singing, but it's likely to be an interesting program from an intelligent artist.
