DOWNTOWN: Praising the people who created the Troup Howell Bridge

Published on Jul 02, 2007
I was very impressed with your photo feature on the new Troup Howell Bridge (June 13).  Although Erdman Anthony and H2L2 did a phenomenal job designing the structure, we should note that this signature span is what it is because of the hard work of many local sub-consultants, the contractor, subcontractors, and local suppliers, haulers, laborers, etc.

The design and construction was managed by the New York State Department of Transportation. In addition, the project worked closely with a volunteer aesthetics committee. This committee worked many hours to provide ideas, give feedback, and shape the design and color of the bridge. Members represented the state, city, county, several other agencies, and the surrounding neighborhoods, and included a strong involvement by the local arts community.

The design was truly the result of a collaborative communitywide effort, one of which we should all be proud.
