This show features four defunct local metal bands getting back together to, well... make some fucking noise, as they say, and give you one last excuse to drink beer and raise hell like it's 1999. If you didn't catch them when they were active from ‘95 to 2003, thrash-punk trio Section Eight straddled the line between punk, hardcore, and metal but in actuality leaned way more to the punk side than anything else. What made the band so special is that it always grasped what virtually everyone else in this genre misses: fun. Section Eight had a carefree, easygoing vibe that came across naturally in the music but didn't compromise its attack. Certain to bring memories rushing back like a warm breeze over an industrial garbage heap outside the Cosmic Jams rehearsal space, this appearance isn't all about nostalgia, though, as the band will finally unveil its never-released fifth album.
Section Eight, Nickel (formerly Fuel), Within, and Cheeze play Friday, July 20, at Water Street Music Hall, 204 North Water Street, doors at 8pm/show at 9pm. $6-$8. www.waterstreetmusic.com.
