METALCORE: Unearth (7/14)

Published by Andrew Frisicano on Jul 11, 2007

The sword and battle axe imagery on Unearth's latest album "III: In the Eyes of Fire" is telling. The record, produced by legendary metal producer Terry Date (who has worked bands like Pantera and the Deftones), combines harmonized dual lead guitars suitable for any Mega Man soundtrack with drumming made for melting faces. The Boston band was also featured on the soundtrack for the scandalously marketed "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" movie.

Opening band Shai Hulud takes its name from the giant sandworms that inhabit Frank Herbert's "Dune." Sonically, the band is a giant sandworm for your ears - melodic guitars, recognizable vocals, and sufficiently intense breakdowns. After swapping vocalists last year, the band is prepping its first new album in four years for the Metal Blade Records label. And its members moonlight in a group called Zombie Apocalypse. Amazing.

Unearth and Shai Hulud play with The Destro, Another One Down, and We Are the Detatched Saturday, July 14, at The Club at Water Street, 204 North Water Street, 325-5600, 6 p.m., $15. www.waterstreetmusic.com.
