POP/ROCK: Interpol (7/19)

Published by Matt Klein on Jul 18, 2007

New York quartet Interpol, along with The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, didn't so much emerge from the city's early 2000s punk/art rock/new new wave community as it shoved the scene in the rest of the world's face. Since forming in 1998, Interpol has brought that updated '80s-influenced sound back into vogue with two critically well-received albums, 2002's "Turn On the Bright Lights" and 2005's "Antics." The band flirted briefly with mainstream success, with videos shown on MTV. Now, the band is coming to Rochester, taking the sprawling sound of its newly released LP, "Our Love to Admire."

Catch Interpol with opening act Calla Thursday, July 19, 8 p.m. at the Harro East Ballroom, 155 North Chestnut Street. Tickets cost $25 through Ticketmaster, 232-1900, www.ticketmaster.com.
