SPECIAL EVENT: Pride Parade & Picnic (7/14-7/15)

Published on Jul 11, 2007

What has more glitz and glamour than Rochester's annual Pride Parade? This year's Hollywood-themed Pride Parade, of course, celebrating the local gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community. Before the parade on Saturday, July 14, some other Pride Week festivities include a Drag Idol contest Wednesday, July 11, at Muthers (40 South Union Street) and a Pride Shabbat Service Friday, July 13, at Temple Sinai (363 Penfield Road, 381-6890 for more information).

The parade itself starts at 5 p.m. Saturday, leaving from the corner of Park and Brunswick and going down Goodman Street to Village Gate for a cultural festival (Goodman Street, between University and East Main), which will run 2-11 p.m. Make sure to stop by the City offices at 250 North Goodman during the parade for free refreshments.

Pride Week comes to a close Sunday, July 15, with the Pride Picnic in Genesee Valley Park 1-7 p.m. Prepare yourself for the most fabulous potato salad ever! Specific events at the picnic include a Pride Ecumenical Service at 11 a.m. led by Open Arms Metropolitan Community Church; and Interfaith Advocates for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender People will hold a healing/empowerment communal service at 3 p.m. For more information visit streetsofpride.com.
