SPORTS: Beach Wrestling & Volleyball (7/6-7/8)

Although it's easy to forget come winter, there are beaches in Rochester, and people even hold sporting events there. On Saturday and Sunday, July 7-8, competitors will mix it up in the sand for two volleyball tournaments at Charlotte Beach. Part of an ongoing summer beach volleyball series, the two tournaments are open for registration, and there's hundreds of dollars in prize money up for grabs. The same beach will host the 2007 U.S. Beach Wrestling National Championships and World Team Trials, which sound sandy and entertaining. Those are scheduled for Friday through Sunday, July 6-8, taking place Friday 7-9 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m.-7p.m.; and Sunday starting at 10 a.m. More information available at www.monroecountysports.org.
