SPORTS: Women Skippers Invitational (7/20-7/21)

"Regatta" just sounds classy, and the series of boat races hitting the lake this weekend are just that. A new wave of female skippers and crews has taken to the waters, and this weekend's 2007 Women Skippers Invitational will spotlight their abilities at the helm. Awards will be given to all-female crews and the winners of each of the three races, and the $25 registration fee will benefit Alternatives For Battered Women.
The Genesee Yacht Club event kicks off on Friday, July 20, at 6 p.m., giving racers a chance to meet and eat. Sign-in for the regatta on Saturday, July 21, begins at 8 a.m. Boats will leave the dock at 10:30 a.m. The Awards Picnic will be at 3 p.m.; racers eat free, and tickets for the public are $4 to $6.
