CLASSICAL: Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra (8/18)

Published by Brenda Tremblay on Aug 15, 2007

Beethoven's ninth symphony just might be the greatest musical work ever created (so far, that is.) It stands as the pinnacle of the composer's abilities as well as a signpost for generations of artists to come. With its dark shadows, ebullience, and the famous "Ode to Joy," it's a treat to hear live, especially in an inspiring setting. Rochesterians willing to drive a couple of hours westward to Chautauqua have the chance to hear Beethoven's "Symphony No. 9" performed by the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra and Chautauqua Community Choir conducted by Uriel Segal.

The concert takes place Saturday, August 18, at 8:15 p.m. The Chautauqua Institution is located in the southwestern corner of New York State. From the New York State Thruway take Exit 60, turn left onto NY-394/North Portage Street. Continue to follow NY-394. Tickets cost $32.50; children 12 and under free. 716-357-6250, ciweb.org.
