JAZZ: Pat Bianchi (8/18)

Published by Ron Netsky on Aug 15, 2007

Those lucky enough to catch one of Terell Stafford's sets at the 2006 Rochester International Jazz Festival got to hear an established star on trumpet and a fast-rising star on the Hammond B3. With one rollercoaster ride after another, organist Pat Bianchi stole the show every time he soloed. Bianchi, who grew up in Rochester, has played with Lou Donaldson, David "Fathead" Newman, Joey De Francesco, and many others. On his wonderful new album, "East Coast Roots," he duels with guitarist Mark Whitfield on tunes including Bill Evans' "Turn Out the Stars" and Jimmy Heath's "Gingerbread Boy." This weekend Bianchi will make two local appearances, trading riffs with guitarist Bob Sneider in a trio with drummer Mike Melito.

Pat Bianchi joins Bob Sneider Friday, August 17, 8:30 p.m.-midnight at the Strathallan, 550 East Avenue. No cover. The same group plays at the Clarissa Street Reunion Saturday, August 18, at 9:45 p.m. on the Main Stage at Clarissa and Troup streets.
