Don't ever try to pin down pianist Rachel Z. She has recorded and toured with giants of the jazz world - notably Wayne Shorter - and top pop stars like Peter Gabriel. Her nine albums as a leader have also been widely varied. She is an excellent jazz pianist, but she can also sing with a voice reminiscent of Kate Bush. Her performances this weekend at the Strathallan should be as eclectic as her career. On Saturday night she'll join guitarist Bob Sneider's Trio with Phil Flanigan, bass, and Mike Melito, drums. Sunday evening she'll be playing tunes from her new album, "Dept of Good and Evil," with her own trio, featuring Bobbie Rae, drums, and Maeve Royce, bass.
Rachel Z joins Bob Sneider's Trio Saturday, August 11, 8:30 p.m.-midnight, and plays two sets with her trio Sunday, August 12, starting at 8 p.m. at the Strathallan, 550 East Avenue, 461-5010. No cover. Dinner reservations recommended, table minimums enforced.
