ROCK: East End Festival (8/10)

Amidst the ho-hum of the cover band humdrum, there are certainly a few bands worth seeing at the final installment of the 2007 East End Fest. The Mercies are a tight, edgy (they would've trucked with outfits like Gang Of Four if this were 20 years ago) rock band. The Capitals seem to be clawing at the walls of convention as well. Bacci mixes catchy acoustic chops with serious grooves and an almost jazz-ish element. So stop wallowing in the re-hash. Here's a chance to listen to something new.
The East End Festival takes place Friday, August 10, at four stages in the East End neighborhood starting at 5 p.m. Admission is $3. www.eastendmusicfestival.com.
