ROCK: Fiona Apple (8/16)

Published by Ryan Whirty on Aug 15, 2007

When teenager Fiona Apple's 1996 debut CD, "Tidal," sold 3 million copies, some wondered if she'd be another singing-songwriting one-hit wonder. She dispelled any such doubts with 1999's "When the Pawn ...," which appeared on numerous yearly Top 10 lists. Six years later, she released "Extraordinary Machine," which also earned countless kudos, including the top spot on the New York Times' and Entertainment Weekly's 2005 best-of lists. Apple has simply become one of the most insightful, creative, and evocative songwriters and artists of the last 10 years. Now 28, Apple is working with Nickel Creek on a short tour that comes to Harro East Ballroom (note venue change), 155 Chestnut Street, on Thursday, August 16, at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $34.50.
