ROCK: Lez Zeppelin (8/5)

Published by Frank De Blase on Aug 01, 2007

The gals in NYC's Lez Zeppelin certainly live up to the band's rock god-inspired name. Harmonically speaking, Robert Plant's range skirted and flirted with effeminate tones. This band notes-for-notes the Zeppelin catalogue - with "Led Zeppelin II" producer Eddie Kramer twiddlin' the knobs - and shines on alarmingly accurate covers of Zep tunes like "Whole Lotta Love," "Since I've Been Loving You," and "Kashmir." But what will really send ya are the tunes Zeppelin never wrote; Lez Zeppelin originals that stay true to the monster riffs and blues that to this day are still king of the misty mountain.

Lez Zeppelin plays Sunday, August 5, at NOLA's, 4775 Lake Avenue, 663-3375, 6 p.m.
