ROCK: The Hoodies (8/16)

Published by Frank De Blase on Aug 15, 2007

The current trend of ultra-melodious rock is probably coming to light because melody got forsaken or bulldozed during previous waves of music. Band's like Rochester's The Hoodies know kids can't sing along if there ain't no melody. My only complaint now is a lot of the band's bringing the sing-along back to the song are meandering all over the chart. The Hoodies approach songs in much the same way, yet in this case the melodies make sense. They're a bit melancholy, with lyrical patterns emphasizing the subject at hand instead of merely adhering to what fits. Musically The Hoodies rock restrained and tight, but the songs will set you free. And that's why you really oughta listen.

The Hoodies, Holiday Parade, The Day After, Every Avenue, The Demos, Museums, Remember Tomorrow, Another One Down, and Choke Up Tiger play Madison Set's CD release show Thursday, August 16, at Water Street Music Hall, 204 N Water Street, 325-5600, 5 p.m., $10-$12, all ages.
