FOLK: Jim Malcolm (9/18)

Published by Ryan Whirty on Sep 12, 2007

By his early 20s, Jim Malcolm was winning songwriting competitions, touring the Scotland folk scene and being dubbed "the new male voice of Scotland." He eventually signed with Greentrax Records and started releasing solo albums, and in 1999 he signed on as the lead singer of the venerated folk act Old Blind Dogs. At the 2004 Scots Trad Music Society awards, Malcolm was named Songwriter of the Year, and the Dogs were tabbed Scottish Folk Band of the Year. Malcolm's latest solo album, Acquaintance, a collection of Robert Burns songs, was released earlier this year.

Jim Malcolm makes a stop at The German House, 315 Gregory Street, on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. Tickets for the show, which is sponsored by the Bop Shop, are $15 advance and $18 door. Call the Bop Shop at 271-3354 or go to http://www.bopshop.com/ for information.
