There were a lot of killer diseases during the Elizabethan period, not the least of them the plague. And let's not forget scurvy, gout, and VD. William Shakespeare excelled at describing these distasteful afflictions and their unfortunate effects in his works. On Sunday, September 16, Dr. Rufino Pabico will explore the many references to medicine in Shakespeare's works, along with the state of art and science in medicine during the Bard's time. "Shakespeare and Medicine: The Medical Mind of Shakespeare" takes place at the Pittsford Community Library, 24 State St, at 2:30 p.m. The lecture is free, although registration is required. (Immunizations are not.) Call 249-5481 to reserve a seat.
