Reviews of the alleged June 1 beatings on South Goodman Street - some of whose alleged victims are gay - have "sustained allegations" against Rochester police officers who responded to the calls that night. Police Chief David Moore announced early this afternoon that both the department's own internal investigation and the Civilian Review Board's review of that investigation sustained the allegations.
Police Chief David Moore met with the media this afternoon to give an update on the investigation. Allegations against the officers included charges that they used anti-gay slurs and excessive force, but Moore said he is unable to specify which allegations were upheld and which weren't; state law prohibits him from discussing many of the details, including the officers' names.
Letters have been sent to officers detailing the charges, Moore said, and they have eight days to respond. He could suspend them with pay while he decides how to discipline them, he said. Disciplinary actions could include anything from a written reprimand to termination, he said.
