POLITICS: Stainton won't be on November ballot
Published by Jeremy Moule on Sep 05, 2007
The Monroe County Board of Elections has quashed activist Andrew Stainton's bid to become county executive. Stainton filed to run as an independent representing his Sustainability Party. But Republican Party chair Steve Minarik challenged his petitions, and today the Board of Elections ruled that Stainton hadn't collected enough valid signatures. Among the reasons petitions were rejected: Some signatures were from voters not registered at the address they gave, some signatures didn't include a date, and some were from residents outside of Monroe County. That leaves incumbent Republican Maggie Brooks and Patrick Christopher of the Working Families Party as the only candidates for the county's top office.
