Tinker Nature Park Honey Harvest Festival

Published by Eric Rezsnyak on Sep 12, 2007

It's been a rough year for the humble honeybee. This spring bee colonies across the eastern seaboard - including in Western New York - were decimated by Honeybee Colony Collapse Disorder (really!), leaving many hives almost empty. Bees had to be imported from other states to keep parts of our local agriculture community chugging along.

Those extreme measures are all the more reason to celebrate the contributions of the familiar yellow-and-black insect. And that's just what's going on this weekend at the Honey Harvest Festival at Tinker Nature Park in Henrietta.

As its name implies, the Honey Harvest Festival focuses a bit more on bees' sweet, sticky byproduct. The event features honey-harvesting demonstrations, honey tastings, and non-bee-related diversions like a crafts sale, horse-drawn wagon rides, and a variety of children's activities.

The Honey Harvest Festival takes place Saturday, September 15, noon-3 p.m. The Tinker Nature Park is located at 1525 Calkins Road in Henrietta. The event is free and open to the public. Fore more information e-mail tinkerhomestead@gmail.com.
