Want to vote?

New York Democrats and Republicans will hold their presidential primary on February 5. If you want to vote and aren't already registered, you'll have to hurry. The deadline is January 11. You have to register in one of the two parties; in New York, independents can't vote in a party primary. And it's too late to switch your party registration to vote on February 5. (Registration information is available from the Monroe County Board of Elections, 753-1550, www.monroecounty.gov/elections-registration.php.

Getting to know Iran

Peace, Action and Education and Rochester Against War present "Iran: History, Culture and Politics" on Friday, January 11. RIT professor Babk Elahi, UR graduate student Hossein Khosrowjah, and Tom Moore and Judith Bello of Fellowship of Reconciliation will speak at School Without Walls, 480 Broadway, at 7 p.m.

Help wanted: Midtown

Metro Justice will hold a town hall meeting, "Community Jobs for Community Work," on Wednesday, January 16. City Councilmember Lovely Warren will answer questions about construction-related employment opportunities for upcoming Midtown development and city schools modernization projects. The meeting is at School 36, 85 Jacobs Street, at 6 p.m.

College prep

The Urban League's Project Ready is recruiting African-American males from the city school district in grades 9 and 10, who have GPAs of 2.0 and above, and want help preparing for college. ACT and SAT test preparation, academic support, and leadership skills development are part of the program. Project Ready will hold an information session on Saturday, January 19 at the Urban League, 265 North Clinton Avenue, from 10 a.m. to noon. Information: Shelia James at 325-6530.

Film series examines religious relations

The Commission on Christian-Muslim Relations will hold a January film series starting with "A Visit to a Mosque in America" on Monday, January 14, at the Islamic Center of Rochester, 727 Westfall Road, at 7 p.m.

Eat bagels with Obama Dems

Rochester Dems for Obama will meet Saturday, January 12 at the Bagel Bin, 2600 Elmwood Avenue, (at Twelve Corners) at 1 p.m.

Spreading peace in our time

Rochester's Christian Science Churches will present "We Can All Get Along," on Sunday, January 13. The discussion with CSC practitioner Lorenzo Rodriguez on spreading peace in the community will be held at the George Eastman House's Dryden Theater, 900 East Avenue, at 2 p.m.

Get your peace on

Stand for Peace in a Time of War vigils will be held at three locations on Wednesday, January 16: First Unitarian Church, 220 South Winton Road, from 7:30 to 9 a.m.; the corners of Park Avenue and Culver Road, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.; and Irondequoit United Church of Christ, 644 Titus Avenue (across from House of Guitars), from 7:30 to 9 a.m.
