ROCK: Elvis' Birthday Bash (1/9)

Published by Frank De Blase on Jan 09, 2008

The King is gone but he's not forgotten... at least not by Albany twang masters The Lustre Kings and the host of pomaded rockabilly aficionados that gather at the Dinosaur each year to celebrate the true meaning of the holiday season, the birth of Elvis Christ. I know, I know - for a lot of kids Presley is nothing more than some fat guy in a jumpsuit that grandma likes. And let's be honest, Presley co-opted and got the credit for a lot of music originally recorded - and created - by black musicians (Big Mama, can you hear me?). But there is no denying the allure and impact he had on American culture and in bridging music's black, white, and blue.
