This compilation of recordings by the strangely poignant front man of poppy power-nerds Weezer is a testament to the destructive nature of commercialized art criticism. In 1996, Weezer released its second album, "Pinkerton." Largely condemned by the mainstream press, its delicate rockings inspired a generation of whiners, who would soon cry their way to the top of the charts. Hurting from bad reviews, Cuomo's songs became less personal and Weezer drooped into mediocrity. This collection chronicles unheard demos in various states of completion, and luckily focuses on the early years. Alone, Cuomo is free from self-conscious discomfort, as well as Hollywood production. Notable moments include an early demo of "Buddy Holly," and an unexpected Ice Cube cover.
