On politics in Israel
The Jewish Community Federation will sponsor "Israel Today," a lecture by Reuven Hazan, professor of political science at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, on Thursday, February 14. Hazan's expertise is the analysis of Israeli politics. He will speak at Temple B'rith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Avenue, at 7:30 p.m.
Hand-outs for the rich
The Rochester Labor Council's Labor Lyceum Series will present a discussion with David Cay Johnston, author of "Free Lunch: How the Wealthiest Americans Enrich Themselves at Government Expense (And Stick You with the Bill)," on Saturday, February 16. Johnston, a Brighton resident and a reporter for the New York Times, will speak at 10 a.m. at Union Place, 30 North Union Street.
Books for kids
SUNY Brockport's "Have a Heart - Give a Book" literacy campaign will continue through Friday, February 22. The college plans to collect 1,300 books for pre-K through grade 12 children in Monroe and Orleans counties. Drop boxes are located on the SUNY Brockport campus and at Lift Bridge bookstore on Main Street. Book list and donor information: 395-2554.
More peace vigils set
Advocates for Peace in a Time of War will hold vigils on Wednesday, February 20, at three locations: in front of First Unitarian Church, 220 South Winton Road from 7:30 to 9 a.m.; in front of the Irondequoit United Church of Christ, 644 Titus Avenue (across from House of Guitars) from 7:30 to 9 a.m.; and on the corners of Park Avenue and Culver Road from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.
