DEVELOPMENT: Ren Square agency to meet

Published by Jeremy Moule on Feb 06, 2008
Main and Clinton Local Development Corporation, the quasi-governmental agency overseeing Renaissance Square, is scheduled to meet at 10 a.m., Friday, February 8, at the Watts building in downtown Rochester.

On the meeting's agenda is an overview of the project's status, according to a spokesman for the county administration. Some bookkeeping matters will probably be discussed, too. The meeting is open to the public.

The agency's board hasn't met in months. In the meantime, the public and some elected officials have been increasingly concerned about the project, which is supposed to combine a bus station, art center, and MCC campus downtown. Funding, costs, and sustainability are major worries. An environmental review has taken longer than anticipated - groundbreaking was originally scheduled for fall 2007. The delays have fueled speculation that the project won't happen at all, but the county insists that's not the case.
