Joe Jackson first hit American airwaves as part of the Brit pack of New Wavers back in the late 70's. On his most recent release, "Rain," he hooks up with retro band mates Graham Maby on bass and Dave Houghton on drums to shoot out all-new tunes that are reminiscent of the old days, while slipping in nods to each genre-bender of Jackson's long career.
The trio's sound is wide, almost orchestral, with Jackson's piano playing featured front and center. The disc comes with a DVD of live performances of three songs, interviews, and "Joe's Guide to Berlin," the city where he spends much of his time since the smoking ban in NYC. Although pitched by reviewers as his comeback album, this is really just another example of Jackson defying his own gravity.
