Vigil to mark Iraq occupation

The Genesee Valley Citizens for Peace and the Geneseo Ecumenical Coalition for Peace will hold a Solemn Commemoration vigil for the beginning of the sixth year of occupation of Iraq at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, at St. Michael's Church, 23 Main Street, Geneseo.

The other low-carb diet

The Green Brighton Task Force will hold a climate-change discussion on how to participate in a low carbon diet on Sunday, March 16, at the Bagel Bin Café, 2600 Elmwood Avenue, at 3:30 p.m. Donation: $5.

The First Unitarian Peace Advocates Task Force will present women writers and poets in "Women Read Against War," on Friday, March 14, at First Unitarian Church, 220 South Winton Road, at 7 p.m.

Rochester Against War will hold "Soldiers and Civilians Speak Out: Five Years Too Many," a protest rally, on Wednesday, March 19, at the Liberty Pole, at 4:30 p.m.

Hudson business group to meet

The Hudson Avenue Business Association will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 18, to discuss progress on the Hudson Avenue corridor study at Greenshield, 1370 Hudson Avenue, at 6 p.m.

Marriage equality subject of briefing

The Rochester chapter of Interfaith Impact of New York State will present a legislative briefing, "Marriage Equality: Love, Leviticus, and the Legislature," on Sunday, March 16, at the Downtown Presbyterian Church, 121 N. Fitzhugh Street, at 2 p.m.

Married or not?

Empire State Pride Agenda will present "Married or Not? Understanding the Martinez Decision and Appeal" on Monday, March 17. Pat Martinez, Lisa Goldman, and attorney Jeffrey Wicks will speak at the event, which will be held at Downtown Presbyterian Church, 121 North Fitzhugh Street, at 7 p.m.

Kicking the Emerald Ash (Borer)

The Department of Environmental Services Forestry Division will hold a workshop on the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive insect that is responsible for 20-million tree deaths. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, March 19, at the Ontario County Training and Safety Building, 2914 County Road #48, Canandaigua, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Free, but registration requested: 428-7710.

Open house at the Anti-War Crisis Center

The Storefront Anti-War Crisis Center will hold "How Do You Feel About Five Years of War," an open house for a "street blog" exhibit of public opinion about the Iraq War on Wednesday, March 19, 658 Monroe Avenue, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibit runs through April 19.
