Middle East expert to speak

The Jewish Community Federation will present a discussion with Stephen Berk, a professor at Union College known for his expertise on Israel and the Middle East, on Sunday, March 9, Temple Beth El, 139 South Winton Road, at 7:30 p.m.

Writer talks on justice

Nazareth College will present "Justice has a Face and a Name," a talk with writer and University of Toronto Professor Mary Jo Leddy, on Thursday, March 6, Nazareth College Community Center, 4245 East Avenue, at 7 p.m.

Debating the legality of the Iraq War

More than 30 anti-war organizations will present "Is the Iraq War Legal?" a town hall-style meeting on Thursday, March 6, with speakers Scott Ritter, former chief United Nations weapons inspector; and members of Iraq Veterans Against War. Representatives Louise Slaughter, Jim Walsh, Tom Reynolds, and Randy Kuhl have also been invited to speak. The event will be held at the First Unitarian Church, 220 South Winton Road, at 7 p.m.

Water for Sudan

Friends of the Public Library will present Angelique Stevens, assistant director of the Holocaust Genocide Studies Project at MCC, on Thursday, March 6, to discuss "Water for Sudan," at the Central Library, Gleason Auditorium, 115 South Avenue, at 5:15 p.m.

A single-payer solution?

The League of Women Voters will present Dr. Emily Queenan, UR department of Family Medicine, on Thursday, March 6, to discuss health-care reform in her talk "Is a Single- Payer System the Answer?" The event will be held at 1600 East Avenue at 10 a.m.

Court watchers need more eyes

The Task Force on Courts is seeking volunteers to become court observers. Information: Linda Norak, 461-9185.

Cartoonists's views on the elections

SUNY Brockport's American Democracy Project will present "Drawing Conclusions: Political Cartoonists on the 2008 Elections" by Professor Elaine Miller on Tuesday, March 11, Cooper Hall, at 7:30 p.m.

Peace vigils

Faith community activists will hold Bring Them Home peace vigils on Thursday, March 6, in front of First Unitarian Church, 220 South Winton Road, from 6 to 7 p.m. Vigils will be held on Tuesday, March 11, at First Unitarian Church, 220 South Winton Road, at 4:30 to 6 p.m. Members of Downtown United Presbyterian, and The Episcopal Church of St. Luke and St. Simone Cyrene will hold their vigil on the corners of Fitzhugh and Broad from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
