Decision 2008

The Downtown Community Forum will present "Decision 2008: Discerning Your Vote," a lecture by RIT professor Ivan Kenneally, on Thursday, April 10, at The Dugan Center, St. Mary's Church, 15 St. Mary's Place, at 7 p.m.

Worth saving anyway

The Landmark Society will present "The New Frontier of Preservation" a talk and slideshow about the merit of preserving the controversial and sometimes unpopular architecture of the 1950's and 60's. The lecture will be held Thursday, April 10, at Christ Episcopal Church, 36 South Main Street, Pittsford, 7:30 p.m.

The brain train

The Rochester Downtown Development Corporation will present "Powerhouse Universities: How They are Turning Rochester Around," with UR President Joel Seligman and RIT President William Destler on Monday, April 21, at the Hyatt Regency downtown from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Reservations required by Thursday, April 17. Emergency prep 101

MCC's Homeland Security Management Institute is offering free emergency planning training to community groups, schools, and businesses. There must be 15 people in the group for training. Information: 753-3921.

The law vs. global warming

The New York Attorney General's office will present "The Legal Fight Against Global Warming" with speaker Kit Kennedy, special deputy general for Environmental Protection, an environmental forum at RIT's Carlson Auditorium, Building 76, on Wednesday, April 16, at 7 p.m.

New ways to ride

The Sierra Club will present "Transportation Alternatives for Rochester: A Vision of the Future" on Thursday, April 17, at First Unitarian Church, 220 Winton Road South, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Richard Perrin of the Genesee Transportation Council, Professor David Keefe of SUNY Brockport, and city of Rochester Transportation Specialist John Thomas are panel speakers, with RIT Professor James Winebrake as moderator.

Passport fairs

Several area post offices are hosting passport fairs in time for summer travelers: Brockport Post Office on Saturday, April 12, at 14 Main Street, from 1 to 4 p.m. and at the Clarendon Post Office on Saturday, April 12, 4540 Holley Byron Road, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Information: www.travel.state.gov or (716) 846-2375.

Something in the wind in Hamlin
