Dr. Lonnie Smith was operating on the organ (OK, it was a Hammond B-3, I can't keep up this medical thing forever) in Buffalo in the 1960s when he was discovered by George Benson. Benson was just starting his own band and took Smith along to the top of the jazz world. Since then Smith has played with Lou Donaldson and others and recorded 20 albums as a leader. Playing with Smith for this Exodus to Jazz concert will be Rochester-based guitarist Mel Henderson and drummer Ulysses Owens.
