SPECIAL EVENT: Maple Sugaring Weekends

Published by Dale Evans on Apr 02, 2008

It seems some of us have not yet recovered from the maple-sugaring traumas of our childhoods. The idea of choosing to do it seems foreign, almost alien, as we remember those weekends we were forced to suffer through the torments of being outdoors in the fresh air, the crackling and smoke of the fire, the bubbling of the sweet sap, and worst of all, hanging with our parents. It's time to let the past go and start anew. There's a light at the end of the tunnel, or at least some pancakes.

Cummings Nature Center holds its second weekend of maple sugaring on Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. Sugaring demonstrations run 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and pancake meals will be served 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Meals cost $10 for adults, $6 for children, and include a half-pint of real maple syrup to take home. All the gain, without the pain.

Cummings Nature Center is located at 6472 Gulick Road in Naples. Call 374-6160 or visit rmsc.org for more information and directions.
