Greening Penfield

The Penfield Green Initiative will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 14, at the Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road, to discuss environmental issues impacting the community. Information: penfieldgreen@gmail.com.

Rochester for Obama

Rochester supporters of Obama for president will hold a "Unity Rally and Social" on Wednesday, July 9. Meet at Corn Hill Landing, 270 Exchange Boulevard, at 3:30 p.m. The social is after the rally at Nathaniel's Pub (across the street) from 4 to 7 p.m.

The money road

Mayor Bob Duffy's One City lecture series will present "Economic Development: What Lies Ahead for Rochester," a discussion with Carlos Carballada, economic development commissioner for the city, on Wednesday, July 16, at St. Mary's Church, Dugan Center, 15 St. Mary's Place, at 7 p.m.

Well-water safety

Ontario County residents can have their well water tested through a Cornell Cooperative Extension program for $25. Well water should be tested annually and typically costs $75 or more. Information: 394-3977 x 427.

Bush's oil wars

Patriots of Western New York and Citizens for a United Earth will present "An Evening with Dr. Bob Bowman: Iraq, Iran, Impeachment," on Thursday, July 10, at Pineview Restaurant at Barefoot Landing, Route 259 in Spencerport, at 6 p.m. Tickets include dinner: $24. Reservations: 392-5432.

Peace vigils

Faith community peace advocates will hold "Bring them Home Now" vigils on Wednesday, July 16, at the corners of Park Avenue and Culver Road, at 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Another vigil will be at the Irondequoit United Church of Christ, 644 Titus Avenue (near House of Guitars), at the same time.

Evolution and religion

The Center for Sustainable Living will present "Thank God for Evolution: the Universe Story," a discussion with evangelical writer Michael Dowd on Wednesday, July 9, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canandaigua, 3024 Cooley Road, at 7 p.m. The center will also present "Children's Eternal Rainforest," a slide show with Katherine Philips. Her presentation is on Sunday, same location, at 10 a.m.

An urban planner's dream

Climate Change Central will show the documentary film "The End of Suburbia" on Friday, July 11, 545 Park Avenue, at 7 p.m.

RCZ meeting

The Rochester Children's Zone Pre-K to 16 education committee will meet on Tuesday, July 15, at the Family Learning Center, 30 Hart Street, at 5:30 p.m.
