EASTMAN THEATRE: Why not use the old plan?

Published on Jul 08, 2008
The answer to the acoustic problems at the Eastman Theatre is in the letter from Bob Laird (The Mail, June 25). He quotes the old newspaper's review of the beautiful sound quality enjoyed back in 1924. How about if the old blueprints are dusted off and we just put the theater back the way it was. How simple of an answer is that?

Of course there will probably have to be numerous studies and reports and environmental and ecological reviews, etc., etc. However, if we start now with this simple answer, maybe we can enjoy the sounds of the old theater before next season.

Let's try to keep in mind that old, common-sense statement that was around back in the days of the beautiful music: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Modern geniuses should ponder this occasionally when they want to tinker with things they shouldn't really be tinkering with.
