POLITICS: New face on the MCC board

By the time you read this, Pittsford resident John Bartolotta will probably have been appointed as the newest Monroe Community College trustee. | Bartolotta is group manager-administrative vice-president for M&T Bank. He served on the board of directors for the Monroe Community College Foundation from 1983-1998 and is a former president of the foundation. | County Legislature President Wayne Zyra nominated Bartolotta in a last-minute notice, known in government-speak as a matter of urgency. That came late Monday afternoon. The Legislature was scheduled to vote on the appointment during its regular meeting on Tuesday night. | Assuming Bartolotta gets the Legislature's approval, he will serve until June 30, 2011. |Bartolotta would replace former trustee Lori Van Dusen, who resigned in June. |The board is at the center of controversy over the selection of a new college president. Critics have alleged behind-the-scenes political interference in the process. | Democrats, meanwhile, were annoyed at the timing of the Bartolotta recommendation. Submitting it at the last minute gave them little time to vet the candidate. "He's totally unfamiliar to me," says Minority Leader Harry Bronson. |Bronson says Republicans did not include Democrats in the selection process.
