Maybe it's the thrill, knowing that Stone Temple Pilots front man Scott Weiland's combustibility always makes it seem like he's one click away from fucking it all up again. And maybe it's his allure as one of the few androgynous rock 'n' roll bad boys left. But all speculation and sensation aside, STP was on the top of the heap in the post-grunge, where-are-we-gonna-get-our-rock-from-now 90's. STP wrote some great songs and played them with an intense and unparalleled chemistry. Want proof? Velvet Revolver and Talk Show, two outfits STP members sought sanctuary in. Two outfits that. despite their lineage, simply couldn't measure up to STP. So the guys have wised up, and hatchets have been buried.
STP plays Tuesday, July 15, 8 p.m. at CMAC, Lincoln Hill Road, Canandaigua. $64.50-$99.50. 232-1900.
