Poised atop a small grassy knoll, Dan Hastings lines up his shot. He gets a feel for it once, twice, three times, all the while grasping a thin, neon-yellow piece of plastic by the very edges of his fingertips. The fourth time, he lets the disc fly - no,

Cincinnati singer Billy Wallace may be based in the North, but his tunes scream down-home Southern country blues. Wallace adds in just a twinge of jazz for fun and plays more instruments than you can imagine (banjo, harmonica, violin, flugelhorn, the list goes on and on). It's rough and raw

The six Siberian huskies ahead of me weren't even barking, but I could tell they were itching to run. The line of dogs seemed to stretch on for miles in front of the sled. Ahead of them laid a tree-lined, snow-covered trail, like a pristine linen-covered table surrounded by thousands

Modern Americans may associate fall with going back to school, cooler temperatures or leaves changing colors, but the season was originally all about the harvest.‘Tis the season to pick some apples or find that perfect pumpkin, and being the Flower City, Rochester and its surrounding communities is full of farms

September sneaks up on us faster than a jackrabbit - so fast that we don't always have the time to take a spin on the famed local rollercoaster of the same name. Yes, soon the lovely sunny days that Mother Nature bestows upon Rochester for a few months every year

Ever found yourself humming along to your video-game theme song? Doo, doo doo, doo doo da doo... Catchy, right? Those familiar blips and beeps inspired one group of local college students to start making music. The Revengineers, who have only been playing together for about six months, blend the simple

I did an actual double-take when I walked into Geva Theatre for the opening night of its new summer show, "Girls Night: The Musical." Instead of the usually polite crowd of theatergoers decked out in business casual, the lobby was packed with women clad in pink feather boas and light-up

Even when the weather gets nice, it's not always easy for parents to pull the kids away from the television. But thanks to local outdoor film screenings this summer, everyone can get what they want. The Monroe County-sponsored Movies at the Bowl and Movies at the Beach have been fixtures in

Walking down the street in Kyoto a few years ago, there were plenty strange new sights for me to take in, perhaps none stranger than seeing a gaggle of geisha girls in kimonos strolling down the crowded alley alongside the everyday Japanese businessmen and women. It's an odd juxtaposition of

Stephen Lynch, a self-proclaimed "musician trapped in a comedian's body", will be bringing his own unique brand of comedy to the University of Rochester on Friday, January 29 at 9 p.m. Whether he's gleefully singing an ode to an ailing grandfather (an the inheritance his death will surely bring) or setting

Toward the beginning of the live shows I had originally written off this season, but looking back through things, we got a lot right. For one, the combination of a Top 20 and having them perform with All-Stars was a perfect choice. I hope this becomes the norm for the

The opening routine started with the boys surrounding a giant pink flower. The girls slowly joined them for some separate partner work before coming together in sync. It was very syncopated, full of lots of freezes. The rest felt flowy and playful. The lifts were simply lovely. A great routine

The opening number was a circus-themed piece set to "The Circus Set Up" from the "Water for Elephants" soundtrack. Everyone was decked out in white makeup, with Jess as the ringleader. The movements were slow and mesmerizing, but not memorable. I wasn't wowed by it. Tyce DiOrio choreographed the routine.

So it's down to the Top 10 now, and that means that the dancers will be splitting from their partners and will dance with the All Stars. And that means there's a shirtless Pasha in there somewhere. Yay! I've skipped the last few weeks and felt like this season was

I was actually dreading tonight's show. Eliminations are never fun, but tonight's results were going to be especially tough to swallow. The opening routine set to "Sinnerman" by Nina Simone (yup, the iPod commercial song) was choreographed by Dave Scott. Usually, I like his stuff, but this one didn't do a

"Dance" got to a bit of a late start tonight because of the President's speech about Afghanistan. I was actually psyched (I know, I'm weird) because I thought I'd have to choose between the two. But people on Facebook and Twitter got their panties in a twist. I love "Dance"

Admittedly I missed the first 20 minutes or so of tonight's episode (long story). For a results show though, usually that means I missed the group performance and Cat dragging out the actual results for-e-ver! So, with no further adieu, the bottom couples were: Mitchell (because of the injury), Jordan &

It felt like we zoomed straight through the audition phase this year (thank goodness), and have already arrived at the first performance show of the season. What ensued was a mish-mosh of elating highs and downright depressing lows. Let's get straight to it, shall we? Cat Deeley looked sexy as hell

Keeping with the changing format of the show, rather than an agonizingly slow two hours of JUST finding out who the Top 20 were, we also got to see them dance. Well played, Mr. Lythgoe. What wasn't well-thought out: the judging panel. For one, Lil C is still here (I'll spare

It's do or die time - and the judges take the "die" part serious on this show. Injuries and pressure were in full supply during Vegas week. Since the judges seemed to let so many dancers through the initial audition rounds (more than usual, I think), it was time
