American Idol - The Auditions - San Francisco CA - Season 8 - 2009

Hi Everyone,

Tonight we saw auditions that took place in San Francisco CA where former Idol contestants Katherine McPhee and William Hung originally auditioned. This time we had the first Idol proposal and wedding in the audition waiting line.

Tatiana Nicole De Torro, a singer from Puerto Rico brought her press kit to her audition, wearing what looked like a pair of drapes attached to the hem of her dress. She sang “Never Loved A Man,” by Aretha Franklin. She had a very annoying laugh, and a way over confident, drama queen, attitude and is somehow going to Hollywood. Instead of leaving her heart there, I hope she leaves that big ego in San Francisco.

Nick Reed and Jiayi Yu were up next and left a lot to be desired.

Dean Anthony Bradford showed up wearing a wild plaid suit coat that looked like he stole it from a carnival barker. He attempted to sing “Stars” by Simply Red, but it was just as painful to listen to, as his suit was on the eyes.

Jesus Valenzuela decided to audition because of the encouragement of his children. Good move on his part, and his version of “Unchained Melody” got him a ticket to Hollywood.

Dalton Powell should stick to doing Rubik’s Cube games. He looked like a deer in the headlights as he barely squeaked out “Oh Baby Baby” by Smokey Robinson.

James Smith was up next and all I could think was “make it stop!”

There was a video tribute to the “Summer of Love” " 1967 in Haight Ashbury, and then we saw how Simon and Kara were not showing much love to each other as they disagreed during the auditions.

Ahila Askew Gohlston trains Gospel singers, and brought medical journals detailing the respiratory system of the human body. She prepped for her audition like an athlete does before a huge sporting event. She did an original song, and babbled on way too long, before she came to the stark realization that she was not going on to Hollywood.

Next up we saw three more singers who we will see again in Hollywood.

Anni Murdock plays violin, likes to scat, and sang a surprisingly bad version of “Summertime” by Bonnie Raitt.

Adam Lambert ‘s got experience in musical theater and was part of the cast of “Wicked.” He saw Paula in concert when he was ten. His audition started on a rough patch, but he managed to pull off Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and he is one to watch out for in Hollywood.

Kai Kalama is a musician and devoted son who has been taking care of his mother who has a seizure disorder, and who taught him to sing. He sang “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes,” by the platters, and I am sure his mom is very proud of him as he heads off to Hollywood.

In all 12 contestants will be moving on to Hollywood from this round of auditions. Be well!
