So glad that this is happening. I grew up near Corning, and Market Street is a fantastic funky place. Too many small towns have shells of Main Streets. It would be fantastic if someone did something like this to Dansville or Hornell.
Having worked in the MCC campus downtown I fully agree with the mayor. It's a fantastic building and a great location, it just needs some tlc, I hope that the MCC board considers keeping and expanding first floor retail.
This sounds great, I hope that they continue to focus on reuse of the existing historical architecture that is absolutely stunning. Also, the existing people need to be considered. The poor in the neighborhood cannot simply be pushed out, there is a big need to help the existing population to raise itself through the creation of local businesses.
Has there been any proposals for Wegmans to have windows that are showcases? I would love to see local art, food displays, farming displays even. What if some of the windows were walk up? Like a ice cream and coffee window? put some tables out there and you would have a nice cafe spot.
But I do agree on the horrible traffic in the area, I hope that there is something to mitigate it.
I went into Dorado several months ago but was not able to order anything. One look at the menu and I was sad to find that there were next to no vegetarian options. I was really surprised because I figured a Tex-Mex restaurant would have many meat-less options.

All this is fine and good, but what about those of us who are not making wads of cash? I see a lot of high end development happening, but not a lot of low or mid range stuff happening. This could just become more of a issue as lower income people are forced into the suburbs that the wealthy are leaving. I think that there needs to be some integration of low income, owner occupied housing in the same buildings and developments that are happening for the high end market. Not only will this help reduce the numbers of people who are displaced, but it would also add to the richness and diversity of our communities that many people desire when they think of moving to the urban core.
I think that Mayor Duffy has done a great job with the rest of the city and cannot wait to see what he can do with the schools. The amount of services that will be available to the students will greatly increase, I'm sure.
yay! I made it in!!!
and yes, my booty is still the best public art!

I've definitely been a fan of RRCDC for several years.
I totally agree about that new gas station on Main Street, its such a shame, but we still have other gateways that we can build brilliantly! why should we settle?
Also, about Main and St. Paul, I think a lot will be able to happen to that section of Main once the transit center is completed, there can be a central median put in place with fountains or trees or public art, but for now the buses take up the space. lets hope the TC makes the improvements that the city is projecting it will.
