CITY COUNCIL
Harry Davis
I commend the Democrat and Chronicle for its coverage of the Red, White and Blue Party (www.RedWhiteandBlueParty.com), which risked being trivialized.
However, endorsing the status quo is tantamount to having things remain the same. Rochester in crisis deserves a critical introspection of where it is going. I call for arrest-free 911 calls for drug overdoses, a suburban witness protection plan and substantial economic development through biotechnology.
Economic development will not occur with faulty business plans for fast boats and Renaissance Square. We must create sustainable, high-paying jobs.
Rochester needs its share of the $1.5 billion that is available for health-related initiatives made available from the Health Insurance Plan of New York conversion. One hundred million dollars of this money should go to embryonic stem-cell research (New Yorkers for the Advancement of Medical Research; www.nyamr.org). Dr. Mark Noble, a stem cell researcher at the University of Rochester, is one of many scientists whose research depends on funding that the HIP conversion can provide. Help me lobby Albany to help stem the brain drain from Rochester!
The people of Rochester are well-informed and want more than the status quo. As we continue to build the Red, White and Blue Party, we invite you to join us.
