The Mez closed on August 31, 2009 and was replaced the Tango Cafe (which also owned the dance studio on the 3rd floor) in October 2009.
The Free Speech Zone Series returned in November 2009, initially on the 2nd, 4th, and (if the month had one) 5th Tuesdays.
FSZ soon took over the 1st Tuesday as well when another series was discontinued. The series "Dreams Unleashed," occupied the 3rd week for over a year starting in 2010. In August, 2011, the Tango management changed the open mic night to Mondays. "Dreams Unleashed" was discontinued in September 2011, at which point FSZ became a weekly series.
The Free Speech Zone ran at the Tango for two successful years until the.management made another change in December, 2011, deciding to use the cafe space for student dance rehearsals on Monday nights, eliminating spoken word events entirely..
The last scheduled Free Speech Zone event at The Tango was on December 19, 2011. For updates, contact the series producer/host, Frank Judge, at rochesterpoets@gmail.com.
